The unFavorite (for now, at least)

Every year my family and my brothers family meets up at my parents house to decorate the Christmas tree (we do meet up more than once a year, but for this story, i'm talking about this particular meeting...). My mom usually gets us all a new ornament to represent us that previous year.
This year, she let the kids pick out their own ornament (except for Addison, which happened to have the cutest ornament.. I LOVE it)

... which probably wasn't the BEST thing seeing as they picked out what they thought was cool, and not something that represented them. For example, we found an awesome boyscout ornament for Noah, but nope.. he didn't want that one, he wanted the guitar.
WHAT?? Didn't know he played guitar, but whatever.

For Kate, we found a cute ballet one, but she picked out a bell.. She's such a Ding Dong...(hahaha.. get it?? bell--ding dong.. hahaha).

Kara picked out a Dora one. So, maybe Mimi should pick them out next year.. at least it was a memory for them! :).

I, however, DID pick out an ornament just PERFECT for me!! I was SO excited to show EVERYONE my ornament. I mean, it fit me PERFECTLY. What says Lindsay except an ornament saying "Youngest Child.. Mom's favorite!"
I was PUMPED!!! Like most siblings, Dustin and I have this ongoing fight over who is mom's favorite (at least, I THINK it's most siblings... maybe not. hmmmm...). So when I found this ornament, I thought I had him!! I was soooooo excited!!! But this excitement only lasted a fleeting 5 seconds. Then, it happened. Something I thought would NEVER happen. My own mother, the one who carried me in her womb for 9 long months, turned on me. Betrayed me. See, she was there with me when I picked out that ornament. She saw the excitement in my face. She saw me cheering when I found it (picture a movie scene with the Chariots. of Fire music playing the in background, with me jumping up and down cheering), and said how perfect it would be. She "fed the fire" if you will. Back to that night. She had an evil smile on her face. This is when I knew my "Chariots. of FIre" moment was about to be up in flames. When she handed Dustin his ornament, it was one of those moments where you are already cheering because you KNOW you are the winner, then the true winner is revealed and you just feel like a freakin' fool. I mean, c'mon... This ornament is disgusting and TOTALLY feeds on his ego (as IF he needs any help).

At least I am humble, so I can handle all the teasing about being "mom's favorite". His reaction was DISGUSTING. He laughed, smiled, the theme of ROCKY played, threw it in my face several times. Made Kate cry out "Hey, where is MY mommy's picture?????" The worst part was that I was caught off guard. I should have KNOWN. My family is full of pranksters. I should KNOW that when you think you are going to be the PrankSTER, you are actually the PranKEE. Of course, he had to put it as the STAR on top of the tree.

Whatever. I will let him have his moment. But I will be back in a Blaze of Glory, with Chariots of Fire playing in the background... just you wait and see! Maybe next year I should get an ornament that says Dads favorite???
