Did you know...

Did you all know that a hurricane hit the houston area??  I was just wondering.  I heard a tidbit on the news the other day and was in TOTAL SHOCK.  If you are having a hard time finding hurricane coverage, I will list the few stations that are covering the hurricane: abc, nbc, cbs, pbs, my 20, cw, hgtv, the history channel, lifetime, and cartoon network.  If you still have trouble finding the stations, let me know, I will find some kind of coverage for you!

Anyways, like many of you, we evacuated the Houston area.  We were headed to plano to stay at a hotel that would take pets, but Kara wasn't feeling well, and I didn't want to sit in traffic so we made other plans.  Chris's family was all going to stay with an aunt of his up in spring, so we decided to go there as well.  Before we got there, we decided to take Kara to an "urgent care" clinic.  She was very congested and wouldn't eat, so I wanted to get her checked out before the hurricane hit.  I was determined she had pneumonia and she would turn blue during the hurricane, then I would have to leave in the middle of the night to take her to the ER where they would have no electricity and not able to help her... so anyways, we took her.  Two hours later (and yes, the kids and Chris and the dog were in the car the entire time... OH HAPPY DAY!!!) they gave her some breathing treatments which she HATES!!

Then the doctor told me all these signs to look out for so I know if she is breathing right.  I kept telling the Dr. that she can't say this kind of stuff to a hypochondriac, but she didn't care.  She kept saying that if her nose flares, or she has some kind of line on her belly (which I still haven't figured out) to take her directly to the ER because she isn't getting enough oxygen.  So the entire time I was in the room, I kept asking her, "that line??" nope  "that line??" nope "that line?"  no, again.  She said I would know it if I saw it.  Obviously not, because I was convinced that all the other lines were the line I was looking for.  Thank the Lord we were going to be with Chris's sister, Michelle, who just happens to be a nurse for an asthma and allergy clinic.  She was able to ease my mind over the few days we were at Aunt Ann's house.  She also kept checking Kara out and helped with breathing treatments.  I was so thankful to have her there.

We finally made it to Aunt Ann's house.  She had homemade lasagna waiting for us.  It was so delicious!  She also had (are you ready for this???)  HOMEMADE SALAD.  I'm talking about actually cutting up lettuce, shredding cheese, etc.  This was no "salad in a bag" like I cook.  It was so good.  The next day we got up and ran the kids at the park, and took them to Denny's and ran them a lot.  We wanted them to get exhausted because we knew the next day they would be stuck in the house.  Aunt Shelly and Uncle Deke helped exhaust the kids.  The kids cousin, Ronnie, was there as well.  They all had so much fun playing together.  They also enjoyed time with their memaw, pawpaw, grandma surface, aunt shelly, uncle deke, and Aunt Ann.

The night of the hurricane, Michelle and I stayed up all night.  We are both wimps and can't sleep through storms, so we stayed up together.  Aunt Ann stayed up most of the night with us.  I have to say that we did have a blast staying up.  We made a movie (that NOBODY will see.. hopefully) about all the "devastation and disaster".  We ran around the house with flashlights and most of the time laughing over nothing.  We played playdough at 4 in the morning and laughed at all the news coverage.  Did you know that the earth is curved??  I'm just sayin...

We made it through the night and the kids all and all did pretty well.  The electricity was out for the rest of the stay, but somehow Aunt Ann was able to still have taco's for lunch and a brisket for dinner.. amazing!!
Sunday morning we headed back home.. WOOHOOO.  We got home and still didn't have electricity.  Tim and Pam Holloway opened their home to us and we stayed with them until we got electricity.  We so enjoyed our stay with them.  Sydney and T.J. were so sweet to Noah, Kate and Kara.  Sydney was another mother to Kara and helped feed her and rock her to sleep.  For some reason I never got her to change a poopy diaper..  seriously, Pam, work on that girls manners!!  haha!!

Kate and Elisabeth had so much fun... getting in TROUBLE.  Those two are crazy together.  They loved jumping on the beds together.  We did learn a valuable lesson.  Two two year old girls CANNOT sleep in the same bed!!!

Pam and I had to go to my house and pick up something.  While we were on the way to our house, it was quite ironic to see which subdivisions had electricity and which didn't.  I'm just sayin... but it did seem to be a that the "higher income" people had electricity, and us ghetto countryside south people didn't.. oh well.  At least we had fun where we stayed!  It was bitter-sweet when we learned our electricity came back on.  We decided to eat one more dinner over at their house and then we headed back to our house.
It was so nice to walk in our house and have electricity and to feel our cool air... OH WAIT, THERE WAS NO COOL AIR...  our air conditioner BROKE...  THanks IKE!!!  Luckily the sweet air people came and put a new one in last night so we got to sleep w/ air last night.  Things are starting to get back to normal.  There still isn't much meat at the stores, but hey.. MCDONALDS IS OPEN....Life is good!!!!!!

Wow. I've been wondering about you. Did your mom tell you I finally resorted to calling her. I'm sorry it's been such a crazy week for you but glad you're back home with no major damage. My parents are up here this weekend because they still don't have power at their house. Anyway, I better run. Love you.

Those breathing treatments are fun huh?! That is just crazy but it looks like you guys actually had lots of fun on your hurrication. We did too and like you, I didn't really want to leave Waco because we were having so much fun. We got home and I emailed my aunt and asked if we could come back. It would have been more fun if y'all ended up coming there too! Anyway...glad you are home and we are home and normal shall return soon (like we are ever normal) My kids miss your kids and I miss my best friend! Was this a long comment or what?

Hey Zac's comment is that you are not supposed to put an exclamation point at the end of a sarcastic paragraph. He read when I left the screen on. He isn't allowed to read mine. What a dork. He wanted to write a comment but I wouldn't let me. love ya!
