Cakes

Since my camera cord has been MIA for several months now, I went to my parents and found some pictures of the birthday cakes I made for my kids birthdays this year.  I haven't even been able to blog about it because of how long my camera cord has been missing.  Sure, I could blog without pictures, but lets be honest, a blog is much more fun with pictures.  Anyways, the first cake is Noah's 5th birthday cake.  He said he wanted two astronauts, the moon, starts and rocket with smoke.  Oh, o.k.. sure, that's easy.  I brought this on myself though.  I love, love, love decorating cakes.  I like doing artsy creative things.  Although a friend from highschool (julie carr) would laugh at the thought of ME being ARTSY!  That's an entirely different story.  Anyways, when I was little my mom ALWAYS made our birthday cakes.  That is something that stuck with me and I always wanted to do it for my kids.  Anyways, so this is Noah's cake this year:

I used candy mix for the stars and stuck them on toothpicks.  Then my mom had some old martian men from one of Dustin's cakes and my dad spray painted them white to look like astronauts.  I made a ball cake for the moon.  Found a cheap rocket at a toy store, and used marshmellows with wire threaded in them for the smoke.  Turned out pretty cute, I thought.  Now, I say I love doing this.. but at 1,2,3 in the morning, I'm cursing myself for not going to the Cake Lady in Friendswood.  After all, she does have the BEST cakes.
The next cake was for Kate's 3rd birthday.  I asked her what she wanted and she wanted a "nink, meow, nincess cake"  (pink, hello kitty, princess cake).  So this is what came to be:

It looked cuter in person, but she liked it.. and I found that as a mom, that's ALL that matters!
For the "princesses" birthday, my dad made her this mirror.  Kate loves herself, and loves to look in mirrors.  Those two things combined with pink makes for an awesome birthday present!  My dad made this himself, and I think he did an awesome job!
Have you seen a bigger smile??  Anyways, such a random post, but I wanted to remember these birthday cakes that I have SLAVED over, cried over, yelled at Chris over, neglected my kids over, and almost killed myself over!
