Chris and I have been talking up first grade ALL. SUMMER. (because that's what you do when you have a kid that HATES change...) We talked about how you get to go on the right side of the hallway instead of the left, how cool is that?? All the big kids go to the right (an actual conversation in our house... this will be important in a couple of sentences). We talked about how he will get to meet new friends and we are sure he will have at least one friend from his old class in his new class. what? Oh, I'm sure it won't be *Z (named has been shortened and first letter changed..) what are the odds? So, we go to the school this morning to find out who our teacher is. It took a while and we finally found his class list. The teacher's name didn't sound familiar, but I was only familiar with 2 of the teachers, so that wasn't a huge shock. But there it was, near the bottom of the list *Zs name. (I swear the theme from PSYCHO started playing in my head) Oh. crap. I was hoping Noah didn't see it, but his eyes got really red and teary, so I quickly ignored it (because that's what Bennetts do in situations) and got his attention on finding his cool new classroom. Hmmm... where is it? Not down the first grade hall. what??? Oh. crap (for the 2nd time in 5 minutes) it's in the KINDER hallway. Noah's eyes got huge, more red, and definitely more teary eyed. "Uh, mom, why am I in the kindergarten hallway? I thought you said all the big kids are on the right??" shooooooooot. So, I told him that they picked the BEST students to be in the Kinder hallway to show the kindergartners how to act. Then he quickly replied, "then why is *Z in my class???" no. response.
Now, back to finishing my story from the beginning of the blog. When we saw who Mrs. G was, we were excited because she had subbed for Mrs. B last year, and her son was in Noah's kinder class. Mrs. G quickly came up to Noah and asked for a hug and told him how excited she was when she saw his name on her list. To which he replied with a blank stare. So, then she said.. "well, what about a high five".. again, crickets... I did tell her that at least she got eye contact, Mrs. Buckels didn't get that until halfway through the year! He was SO overwhelmed with everything that when she asked him to pick where he wants to sit the first day, he couldn't even figure out how to write his name. He looked at me with this terrified look on his face and said, "I CAN'T!!!". We finally got that figured out, and I left Chris to help him with school supplies and I went to sign my life away. Somehow Chris always pulls him out of these situations, and by the time we left things were looking a little up (and by little, I mean little..). He ran out of that school so fast we could hardly keep up. He keeps asking us why we put him BACK in kindergarten, but I have a feeling he will soon find out that he's not in Kinder anymore!!!
We are looking forward to a new year, but boy, we sure miss Mrs. B and her awesome Kinder class!!!!!

Grant is exactly like this; he's really nervous about starting school too. He doesn't want to be in a different classroom with different teachers (even though I'm sure he'll be fine after a week or two). Hope today goes okay!!
