We start out at Big Papa's house. They love going to his house because 1. He has popsicles in his freezer for them 2. He has candy laying out on the coffee table for them and 3. He has a HUGE field in his backyard that they are able to run in. We went up there on Friday because Noah had early dismissal, so he just didn't go to school that day. Anyways, we got up there and the kids got their popsicles, candy, and ran in the big field. The big field is actually the back of the local junior college that is in Gainesville, so my dad and I ran the kiddos all the way from my grandpas house to the college. Now I remember doing it as a kid, and it didn't seem like anything. Now, OH. MY. GOSH. I seriously thought I wasn't going to make it (and it's really not that far away...). I don't think I see a marathon in my future.. oh well. Noah almost lapped my dad and me.. and Kate, well, she kept my pace pretty well. I loved it when she fell because I could stop running (isn't that terrible??). Anyways, we enjoyed one full day there to be able to visit with my Grandpa, and let Kara get to know him better. Of the three kids, she is the most social. She would play ball with my grandpa, and I think she has gotten closer (physically) to him than the other two.. haha! I think he enjoyed being able to get to know her a little better -- who wouldn't.. she is funny!
On Sunday, we went to my mamaw's house. Sunday was also Kate's birthday! My mamaw had made brownies for Kate (and it helps that that is my dads favorite dessert so she always makes them for him.. but these were extra special because they were "birthday" brownies)! We took my mamaw out to Chili's because her birthday was coming up, too.. (and by "we" I mean we all went out to eat for her birthday.. but my dad paid...after all, it is HIS mom.. right????? ha) We spent the afternoon at her house and played a game my kids made up (oh the joys of made up games by a 6 and 4 year old... now I know what my parents had to endure for all those years!). Since my mamaw has a dog that she keeps caged up when we are there (she SAYS its to protect my kids.. but I think it's REALLY to protect the dog.. can't say I blame her!), the kids, my mom and I stay in a hotel and my dad stays with my mamaw and has some extra time with her. The kids love going to the hotel. Noah has it all planned out, too. He likes to get on the bed, watch THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS on the computer, then order pizza. Anyways, they enjoyed staying in the hotel, and once they went to sleep, they slept pretty well. The next morning, we got up, picked up my dad and headed home! yay! As much as i absolutely love going up there, there is REALLY no place like home!
I'm so blessed that my kids want to go see their great-grandparents, and know who they are! THey are so lucky to have great-grandparents they live 5 minutes away that they get to see (Chris's grandparents), and the love them just as much! Growing up, I don't remember ever meeting any of mine. I know Great grandpa Spires held me once, because we have a picture of it, but I never knew him. I'm so glad that my kids KNOW their great-grandparents, know where they live, know what to expect when we visit them. How lucky are they!?
When I get the pics. downloaded I will post them... eventually
