Uh oh, things are getting a little shaky here. I knew the almost "perfect" behavior could not last! ha! Still, though, they have been pretty good... although bedtime almost brought out "Psycho Mommy whose head spins and she spits green goo"! We are quiet upstairs, for the time being, so I might be able to calm down a bit now. Today we ventured out to Space Center Houston. Noah went there about 2 years ago and has been wanting to go back. Kate has never been and "that's not fair", and Kara, well, she goes where the other two go...
I brought my mom along because it's ALWAYS nice to have help herding the "cattle". When we took Noah 2 years ago it was not Spring Break. It was during a school day. There was no one there. It. Was. Quiet. It was quite lovely, actually. Today was the opposite of that day 2 years ago. omygeeze. For starters, it was CRAZY. About as crazy as the thought of Chris getting home at a normal hour during busy season, but not quite. We started out at the new Water Exhibit. It was really cool... I think. The kids pulled some levers, pushed some buttons, and looked at videos, but to be honest we weren't sure WHAT we were doing.
Now, if it was calm, I would have time to read all the little "instructions" by each exhibit, and we would have a science lesson at the same time, but seeing as everyone was pushing and shoving to get a turn to press a freakin' button.. no time for science lessons! When we go back, and it's calmer, I'm sure that exhibit will be great! The highlight was DEFINITELY this high dive act that they had outside. It was these men dressed up as "crazy penguins".. and would do silly little acrobats and jump off diving boards. It was really cool, and Noah actually wanted to take a picture with them. If you know Noah, you know this was HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. He usually doesn't do ANYTHING like this. Very out of character for him, but hey, cute picture!
We then went inside and pulled more levers, had a kid in a green and white shirt keep cutting in line, the momma bear came out in me (albeit AFTER the mimibear came out in my mom..) and I told the kids WHERE the line started and that my kids were NEXT, and then decided to ride a tram. We chose the "white tour" which would take us the the gigantic pool where the astronauts train.
I was excited about this because I have always wanted to see this facility. It was REALLY cool. If you ask Noah, he said an astronaut popped out of the water, waved at him, and went back under. Either he is REALLY schizophrenic and BELIEVES these things, or this is just a never-ending stage he is in. I'm actually hoping it's the first option.. oi!
We went through the mock-up shuttle and called it a D.A.Y. I was exhausted, Mimi was exhausted, and the kids were BEYOND exhausted.
When we got home, we played outside, and then did bath and bed. Bedtime was a fight tonight, but other than that, again, the kids did pretty well. I have to give it to them.. it's so HARD to not have Chris here in the evenings, or the weekends, or anytime for that matter. They have done pretty well this year. Poor Chris, though, you should SEE his "to-do list" the kids have made for him when this "busy season" is over! heh heh heh
