First week of Adventures!!

The first week of school has proven to me that everything is going to be O.K.! He loves it so much. He even told me he would rather be at school than at home (I'm going to try and not take that as an insult.. wait, too late..). I guess I would rather it be that way. Apparently they have a blast at school. They go to the "secret" second story ... although, I'm not supposed to email the teacher about it, because it's a secret; they are allowed to "get lost" for two hours in the school without a teacher looking for them... again, don't email the teacher, Mom, it's supposed to be a secret; and yesterday they ventured out on a school bus where Noah sat by the driver, and they went to the dinosaur museum... and you guessed it, another secret that a mom can NOT mention to the teacher. Wow, I seriously wished I had gone to this school growing up! What could be more amazing than a secret second floor and surprise field trips!?
Seriously though, he seems to love it even though he is making up these wonderful "secrets", but then the psych. part of me is wondering if he is just making up these stories to over shadow the fact that he hates it!? We had a total meltdown last night, but he still got up this morning pretty easily. Sure, I had to do "earthquake" on his bed, which is a sick and twisted thing my dad invented to get us up in the morning. You jump on the kids bed yelling EARTHQUAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and if this doesn't get the kid up, and your name is Rick Bennett, then you start flashing the lights on and off really quickly, yelling TORNADO!!!!! and if this doesn't work, there is the beautiful singing that comes next.... I could sing you the song, (WAAAAAAAKE UUUUUUUP, WAAAAAAAAAAKE UUUUUUUUP, ITS TIIIIIIIIIME TO WAAAAAAAAAKE UUUUUUUUUUUUUP!!!!!!) but will spare you the loveliness of that. And if you STILL don't get up (because your name is Dustin Bennett) the HURRICANE comes and hits you. I never got the HURRICANE, mind you, but Dustin did.. and by now, I'm sure you guessed what that was... it was water on your head. Now, to be fair, I think Dustin only let it get to this point one time. ANYWAYS, where was I?? I got stuck in my weird twisted waking up rituals as a child.. oh yeah, Noah... so he got up with the earthquake and it seemed to put him in a wonderful mood this morning. I got him to school in that 10 minute interval that he wants. Not TOO early, because then he will have to sit in the cafeteria with all the other kids (and as we all know, he is mine and Chris's child.. and anxiety ridden.. so that's NOT a good thing..) but not TOO late because then he would get a Tardy slip. You know, these little things Mom's do never get credit. Seriously, you have to learn to time going out of the garage at just the right minute... these things that moms do, children never understand. SO THANK YOU MOM!!!!! for all the times you "timed" things just right for us!! (I said us, because I am the GOOD child, and we all know Dustin won't thank you.. so I'll just go ahead and do it for both of us.. heh heh heh heh heh)..
So, now I sit for 25.3482 minutes before it's time to get BACK in the pickup line to pick him up. Can't be too early because your mom can't be in the very FRONT of the line... only nerdy moms are at the beginning of the line. Can't be too late because it's hot outside, and you can't be THAT child that makes the teachers wait in the heat for their mom!!!
Can't wait to see where the adventure takes him today!

My gosh, my dad did something very similar. First he would just shake our beds, grabbing the ends of them and rocking them back and forth yelling "WAKE UP!!!!", to mix it up or if that didn't work, he would also plug in his electric guitar, crank up the volume and play some tunes...it was annoying, but effective.

Should I be bothered by the fact that you said only nerdy mom's are at the beginning of the line? You know what number car I was to pick up Sophie every day last year! OH well, I am nerdy and proud of it. My daughter and I fit well together that way :) I am so glad Noah is doing well and likes it so much--huge relief!

You're such a good mommy! I wish some of my parents would get the hint. We have WAY too many kiddos still waiting for parents 30 minutes after the bell. We all like to give them the "teacher" eye as they pull up! Hahaha!

I have loved reading about Noah's first week of school. Too funny!

(And I will second Heather's comment! We also had WAY too many kids left boiling in the Florida sun 40 minutes after pick up began...)

I'm glad his first week was good. Sounds like being a "kinder-gator" is going to be really great. Have fun with your timing! That is definitely a challenge! :)
